In the past few weeks/months dockers have initiated strikes against the "modernization" of the ports (in other words, privatising) :
Rest of the articlePARIS (Dow Jones)--Two officials from the CGT union, the main instigator of strike action at French ports protesting government privatization plans, said Thursday that strike action will continue next week.
The union will communicate further on the status of the strike Friday, one of the officials said.
The other unionist confirming the prolongation - a CGT representative at the autonomous port of Le Havre - told Dow Jones Newswires that the port will be shut Thursday night from 1700 GMT through 0500 GMT. It will then be shut for a further 24 hours, he said, through 0500 GMT Saturday. Then, another 24 hour strike will occur from 1300 GMT Saturday through 1300 GMT Sunday.
