lats saturday 04/02/12 was national library day in britain,a day of events to promote and celebrate libraries.

you would not think there was much to celebrate in the london borough of brent with sosbrent libraries campaign seeking,in a long and always uphill struggle to keep or reopen effectively 7 out of the 12 librraries in the borough.

but at least 3 of the local areas/communities put on events.there was an event in another community in the borough.here in my onw community, preston(park)the campaign organised a whole day of reading and activities for children of various ages from 10am -6pm.i was unable to be there-im adult,i was active elsewhere-but everyone says it went well, with loyts of kids and adults present.despite exhaustion and intense cold which aparently as i write is about to get worse, ther was also a free event in the evening-including games, songs, readings relating to or from the works of charle dickens who as i write would have 200 years old today.

all reportsd that even the library service acknowledge that our campaign with no resources except its own has outwitted and outclassed it in every way who managed a single feeble event somewhere in the borough.

i only feel sorry for my/our brothers ans sisters who still have to work in this immiserated, austerity cropped and dispirited remains of the official library service.

the struggle continues.its uphill.we might well lose but the perspective of some of us will be to celebrate the new life and culture, solidarity and friendship in our community.to look for other positive expressions and struggles.

in a sense it is us who have the power and the energy, the life and culture set against the crass careless stupidity of the running dogs of austerity who compare libraries to supermarkets and give away their stupidity in the process.
