the edl/english defence league have planned for many months to march through londons east end in their determination to make their racist point.
it is no credit to the state that it usually allows the racists to organise as hey wish and then to attack and arrest those amongst any counter demonstration.this time the scenario is a little different.
socialist worker reported that united against fascism/uaf applied to the home secretary to ban the edl march.in turn it appears that she was happy to oblige, knowing she can fall back on concern about further disorder following the riots in early august.
however, this ban now applies to all marches across at least 6 or more central london and east end boroughs for 30 days.liberty, the civil rights organisation have expressed concern that this could all too easily drift into a 90 day ban.there is wider fear that the ban in place from toady will also ban the gay pride event forthcoming on 24-25 september in east london and will effectively prevent any other activity, demonstrations, marches by socialists and trades unionists and others in the east end against say cuts or anything else.
on the other hand it does not prevent the edl having a static d3emonstration.today however the communities in the east end have made it clear that the edl will have no place to even put boots on the ground for any kind of demonstration at all tommorrow.
norwegian police are however showing particular interest in some of the leading members of the edl for theiur connections with the murder of 77 in oslo by the norwegian fascist some weeks ago.
it is to be hoped that the united actions of the uaf,uee/united east end and the whole community have shown that the edl and others like them have no where to go.ever.
except into complete silence back in the rat holes in which they belong
