yesterday saw a number of elections across britain for local councils, outside london, national parliaments in northern ireland, wales and scotland and a referendum everywhere on the possibility of electoral reform.
it looks on that score that the no change campaign will win.
what is more inyeresting is the major shift in voting in s i feel it would be difficult to oppose cotland from tories and li dems to the snp/scottish nationalist party, which gives the nationalist 2 things-dominant control in that their representatives outnumber all the other parties put together and secondly a clear run at a referendumn on independence.i dont know whether that will take place only in scoltaldn(i suspect it will)or across britain but it opens some political interest for a change.
whilst i know that independence solves nothing for the working class i feel it is difficult to oppose a call for national self determination, especially where it appears there are some real material differences between scotland and england as it is now.there have been cuts but they do not appear to be a slash and burn variety and tertiary education remains free for students whilst support for post 16 yearolds in education appears als to remain in place.
