local television news is currently reporting that a 1,000 jobs have been saved at general motors/vauxhall to build the new van in luton,bedfordshire.the story is linked to yesterdays government budget as evidence of the result of that budget on the economy.
and yet...and yet it is jobs saved,not jobs created.and for how long?
then a further comment was added that the development illustrated the way the private sector could take up the slack created by public sector cuts.
this is an idealogical if not economic sleight of hand.the jobs have been saved not created,so it picks up nothing.even if that were true that any new jobs had been created,how does work in the auto industry make up for losses of very different other skills and trades in the public sector?
the only way is by instant re-training which neither the state,economy nor private sector industry can or will provide.if they did it would be final proof they we,human beings who refuse to be reduced to simply units of labour will have been turned by some magic trick into cogs in gthe machine.
this is the kind of trick that the genius mmagician and commmedian tommy cooper could not undertake.he was an exciting talented performer.the british state is worse than a second rate tommy cooper set of institutions.
enough is far too much.it is intolerable.we need to turn our talents as a class on them and put their tommy cooper system on the rubbish pile of history where it belongs,to replace crisis and profit with production and asociety for human need.away with all such pests.
